On June 21, 2011, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee dedicated Bernal Gardens, a community green space built by neighborhood volunteers. The garden transformed an underutilized lot in the Bernal Heights neighborhood into a vibrant public asset. Lee's dedication ceremony honored both the volunteers whose labor and vision created the space and future generations who would gather there to find respite and community.
